Step-by-step guide for setting up your DuelHost email account in Microsoft Outlook on Windows using IMAP and SMTP.

Setting Up Email in Microsoft Outlook

This guide walks you through adding your DuelHost email account to Microsoft Outlook on Windows. These instructions work for Outlook 2016, 2019, and Microsoft 365.

Prerequisite: Make sure SSL is enabled on your domain before proceeding. See our SSL setup guide for details.

Step 1: Open Outlook Account Settings

  1. Launch Microsoft Outlook
  2. Click File in the top menu
  3. Click Add Account under Account Information

Step 2: Enter Your Email Address

  1. Enter your full email address (e.g., name@yourdomain.com)
  2. Check the box for “Let me set up my account manually”
  3. Click Connect

Step 3: Choose Account Type

Select IMAP as your account type. IMAP keeps your emails synchronized across all your devices.

Step 4: Configure Server Settings

Enter the following settings:

Incoming Mail (IMAP)

SettingValue
Servermail.yourdomain.com
Port993
EncryptionSSL/TLS

Outgoing Mail (SMTP)

SettingValue
Servermail.yourdomain.com
Port465
EncryptionSSL/TLS

Replace “yourdomain.com” with your actual domain name.

Step 5: Enter Your Password

  1. Enter the password you created for this email account in DirectAdmin
  2. Click Connect

Step 6: Complete Setup

Outlook will test the connection and verify your settings. Once successful, click Done to complete the setup.

Your email account is now configured and ready to send and receive messages!

Troubleshooting

Connection Failed?

  • Verify your email address and password are correct
  • Ensure SSL is enabled on your domain
  • Check that your domain’s DNS is pointing to DuelHost servers

Can’t Send Emails?

  • Confirm the SMTP port (465) is not blocked by your network/firewall
  • Try using port 587 with STARTTLS as an alternative

Alternative SMTP Settings

If port 465 doesn’t work, try these alternative outgoing server settings:

SettingValue
Servermail.yourdomain.com
Port587
EncryptionSTARTTLS
